I understand he broke tradition, but I feel they don't have to slander his name. If I had one complaint with them it's that I hate how once and a while they'll make a crack at Elder Lyons. So, honestly the BoS are justified in wanting to stop the Institute and their synths. Something which shows what could happen if you erase a Synth's mind and turn them onto the Commonwealth. But there is actually an example of this. I won't spoil it in case you haven't done an Institute run through. Free will or not the synths can be dangerous if you let them run around. Plus what they're saying actually makes a bit of sense. However it's not like they go around and abuse settlers in the Commonwealth. They only really hate the synths, oh and Super Mutants and Ghouls like the previous games. While it's true they have a hatred for Synths.that's pretty much it.
However as time goes on I feel myself siding with them more and more. Honestly if you asked me when Fallout 4 first came out I would say stay away from them and not agree with them at all.
